Small update, well a whole extra dimension really. Finally got my Collada importer working, it’s actually pretty easy compared to the process of writing and maintaining your own one but there’s always the pain of learning a new, relatively undocumented api.
So I chucked a free plane model in there, the materials aren’t imported yet but it seems Collada supports that (and everything else).
Right now I’m integrating Squirrel as I really want to be able to develop when I’m away from home without having to compile new exes. Plus scripting languages make all sorts of things easier really. Yet another API to learn but it’s fairly straight forward. I’m looking forward to finishing all this middleware integration and actually getting on with making the game.
